To go on about last Sunday, while at Bizu, I called Power Plant to find a Nokia E61i
after the Nokia store in Greenhills said they didn’t have any on stock. It cost P16,530, I was told. At any rate, the operator in Power Plant said they had two stores selling cellphones: Mobile 1 and Vertex. I was almost sure Mobile 1 didn’t have Nokia phones so I asked for Vertex’s number (7289540). I was assured they had the model but when I asked if it was sealed, she said Nokia doesn’t seal the boxes of their phones. Anyway, she assured, it came with a one-year warranty. Asked her to reserve a unit.
After lunch at Bizu, bringing the cake to the house of my son’s friend and bringing our son home to do homework, husband and I went off to Power Plant. I was feeling so tired and wanted to just rest but duty called. So off we went.
First stop was Team Manila in the Archaeology section of Power Plant (R2). Archaeology has a hodgepodge of stores, mostly selling clothes, bags, etc. But it has two stores that sell locally made shirts too, namely, Analog Soul and Team Manila, my son’s favorites for their cool designs. Cool meaning young and hip: imagine Rizal wearing shades. Team Manila is also a good place to bring balikbayans as it sells shirts enumerating Filipino games, destinations, habits. It also sells some similarly-themed bags, pencil cases, etc. And for some time now, it sells LOMO cameras, which my husband has been eyeing. As is typical of him, he has been looking for the highest end (to my knowledge, anyway)- the panorama camera. It being his birthday soon, I have been thinking of getting him one and would have gotten him the said model but for two reasons: it was available only on order and the cheapest LOMO horizon camera costs P14k plus, and the more expensive P29k plus. Fisheye2
, his next choice was available for P3850, so that’s what I got him. He’s leaving for Batanes Friday next week for 3 nights, four days, so he’ll be able to use it, Batanes being scenic and all. I’ve seen lomo-camera taken pictures and they’re cool. I’ll try to download from a nephew’s website in a while so you’ll see. Here they are:
(Hi JC)The downside of Lomo is that it’s not digital, ergo it costs in terms of film, developing and printing. it looks like a toy camera because it’s plastic (calls to mind our first cameras as children). The charm of pictures taken using it emanates from a distortion. Oh I don’t know techie stuff so read up on it yourself, haha. The fisheye2 can also “see” 170 degrees. That sounds so odd put that way. Oh well… Camera comes with a one-year warranty, repair shop is at Jupiter Street in Makati. So the girl in team Manila said if you encounter problems, go to them directly.
Next to Vertex for the Nokia E61i. Prior to agreeing to getting this phone for my son, I read reviews on the various Nokia phones. The N series in particular because I thought this was okay. There’s one particular site I visited with several reviews on various phones, except that no one phone seems to have exclusively positive reviews so that after visiting the site, I didn’t want to get my son another Nokia phone. Then he mentioned this model which he saw his cousin use last December. It’s like a PDA phone with a Qwerty keypad. It also has wi-fi. And i was astonished: it’s screen was wide and big, because the phone itself is PDA-wide. When I first held it, I liked its weight. While it’s wide, it isn’t thick. Booting (is that what you call it?) took a bit longer than it does in my Nokia 6300 phone. But the menu so reminded me of my MacBook. My son is all agog with it. And mind you, though it had just the usual factory charge, it has been on since Sunday pm till now and the phone still runs. It has a long battery life, unlike the Nokia 6300 phone which I have to charge perpetually. I don’t think my phone usage has increased, it’s just the battery of Nokia 6300. My older phones did not need to be charged as frequently. And the wifi of the E61i actually works. My son tried it here at home and he was able to go to this site. The previous site I mentioned has no review of the E61i but there’s this site that has reviews on it.
Oh yes, before I forget, after Vertex, we went to Rustan’s superstore. Their quirky promo (see previous post) has ended but even before I found out, I told my husband, let’s not break down our purchases to batches of P1000 — see that was how tired I was.
Then, while in the supermarket, I saw the hair vitamin a former maid told me about. It’s distributed by Kino Consumer Philippines and manufactured by PT Kinocare Era Kosmetindo in Indonesia. Last April, we had a board meeting for a foundation I am part of. One of the board members and I got to talk and he mentioned how he worked for the company that was distributing Ellips products. I said, “what’s that?” and he mentioned a toner commercial starring one of the young stars (i can’t remember who now). I just said “Oh” because the product wasn’t familiar at all. Then a few days ago, I talked to my former maid and she mentioned that her neighbor’s hair was so nice after she used this tablet she got from Mercury. I thought it was a real tablet like Dalacin C which another maid said she’d prick open and put the contents of into an Eskinol bottle, after which VOILA, her pimples disappeared. Years back I tried it and indeed, it’s effective.
Back to Ellips. As we scoured the shelves of the supermarket, I saw this
and this
and laughed. Oh so, these were the tablets my maid (Gaga, honestly, but pronounce it slowly, not like when you mean stupid) was telling me about. I got one packet of each. My son tried it Sunday night, and yesterday he asked for another tablet. last night I tried it and this morning, when I woke up my hair was soft and shiny. yes, shiny, not oily. A blister pack costs P33 so that one tablet costs P5.60. Great. The pink variant is dedicated to those whose hair has been subjected to coloring (guilty), rebonding, excessive blow drying (guilty), curling. In other words, to damaged hair. It has paduan jojoba oil, UV protection, pro vitamin B5 dan (sic and?) Vitamin A, C, E. It helps reduce split ends. it promises to make hair look healtheir, manageable and shiny. Use after hair rinse. Pour onto your hands and wipe thoroughly onto your hair. Leave dry. Ingredients include fragrance jojoba oil, isopropyl myristate, cyclomethicone, the vitamins mentioned earlier and polysilicone -15. the orange variant moisturizes and has aloe vera oil instead of jojoba.

I am afraid of anything that is ingested. But Ellips hair vitamins is interesting, no? (I don’t dye my hair, too. Too lazy to do it.)
I heard about Lomo. Thing is you have to buy one camera for a different style/technique, whatever they call it. So different one for Fisheye, another one for Panorama, etc.
I’m happy you got the 6300 but why do you have to charge it so often? My battery lasts for more than a day without need of recharging and I send a lot of text messages (but rarely use it for phoning).
Try Ellips. It somehow gives a sheen to the hair.
That’s true about Lomo. The Holga model uses the 120 film and this is hard to obtain. Good thing the sales clerk in TeamManila warned us.
Re the 6300, I wonder, maybe the battery that came with it was a lemon? Got it with Globe plan. The battery of the E61i of my son (factory charge only), on the other hand, is still running. And it’s been 3 days. Estimated life is 6 to 7 days!
Your son’s Nokia phone seems interesting. I researched it and it says I can use Adobe Reader there (which means I can read lots of stuff). My question is this: I know the Nokia PC Suite does not work on Mac. How can he sync his data from his Mac to his new phone?
He’s not home yet. I’ll ask him as soon as he’s back. Last night I know he was setting up his yahoo account. I even saw this blog in his cell phone. And the screen is so wide gid ya. It can read ebooks too, I think. Will update you later.
He got back some 20 minutes ago. His answer will probably convince you to get a Nokia E61i pronto. He used the i-sync in the Mac to sync his Mac into his phone after downloading an updated version of the I-sync. Then he went to Nokia for a plug-in to the Mac (or something like that). I’m sure you’ll find your way. He’s very pleased with the phone.
WOW! I must check that! The only negative point that iPod has for me is that I can’t read Adobe documents in it. I have to go through a loooong (and futile) process of converting these to text files and uploading it into my iPod. But if I can to this on my phone then alleluia!
By the way, did you check Amazon? The Kindle is now available! Yummy yummy. Daw indi naman ako matulugan!
