Years back, the brownout lasted quite a while and so unnerved me, I decided to get a generator. The thing cost P20k+ but I chose to spend rather than lose my mind. The heat does that to me. But while I’d have wanted to buy a generator with enough capacity for an aircon, I decided that would be too extravagant and opted for one that could accommodate some lights, the TV, modem, electric fans and the ref. The generator we got was a Coleman Powermate, I think.
Luckily, the brownouts haven’t been too frequent since. So the generator hasn’t been used too much. Plus it has saved us precious pesos by stopping us from running off to check in at a hotel at the first sign of a brownout. We did that once before when we still hadn’t gotten a generator, rationalizing that it’s nicer to spend for a hotel room than for a hospital room where we might land if the heat became so oppressive as to trigger an asthma attack.
